Constipation from Tonsillectomy?
can you get constipation from having a tonsillectomy?
I had my tonsils out one week ago tomorrow, and I haven't had a Bowel Movement since the morning of my surgery. I'm wondering if the combination of the liquid and soft food diet, and the medicine could cause this? I'm not having any pain from it, and my bladder is normal, but it's just been a very long time.

Answers:
it may be the lack of food. also, if you are taking pain medication, especially if they are opiates. a stool softener might help, but you should check with your doctor first.
yes your constipation is due to the pain meds and the diet you are on.
i find it kind of odd that its been 7 days and no bowel movement yet as most people only have constipation for the first few days not a whole week.
when you get off the pain meds and start eating more normally you should easily have a bowel movement and if you don't then you should contact your dr.
