Does anyone know about the glands by a cats butt that needs to be drained and stinks.?

Our cat cannot poop, vet gave her enemas but she did not poop on her own. vet had to go in and take hard stuff out with finger. she has no energy at all, doesn't want to eat or drink alot, and you can tell her butt really bothers her. Is there anything I can give her.

Some cats or dogs will have them worse than others, some severly like your cat is having.

I don't know much about this but you have my sympathy. My male 17yr siamese had the same problem. It looked so uncomfortable. The only thing I might suggest is a warm heating pad (you have to keep an eye on him) that may sooth his rear end. Poor baby, Good Luck

I'll offer my opinion, I'm no expert!

1- your kitty had impacted anal glands. Have you seen her do the butt scootch on the carpet ever? Has she ever tried to push her backside or belly against a cushion or blanket, all hunched with her tail tucked under?

The butt slide usually is the sign for most cats and dogs. The second is unique to my 14 yr old and was treated a renal failure by a vet for 7 years, costing me thousands. A new vet, new country, said anal glads. Bring kitty to vet once a month to make sure they are expressed, squeezed. It's gross. Cost? $15 each time.

I would first make sure you try to get your kitty to the vet for this once a month or until he says it seems to have cleared up. It might be always that way. Dog groomers do this each time a dog is brought in. We don't usually bring our cats to groomers...

In a normal cat, The anal glands are emptied when the cat poos.

Second and more important. Your at sounds very very sick. Please take her back Monday morning! Oh please! How long has she been like this? Did you tell your vet? This IS MORE than anal glands and constipation! My other cat has a hard stool sometimes and needs it removed. Hairball and and laxatives help her, but sometime it gets stuck. She never has behavior you are describing!! Signs of discomfort for her and others are usually crying while pooping, pooping somewhere else since she thinks the litter box= pain, and time in the box with nothing coming out.

Does any of this sound familiar? Your kitty is beyond this, but perhaps a week ago?

If your vets enema failed, he should have moved on to an OPERATION. If you cat is so blocked she is not eating, is not drinking, has no energy, she will not last long. This can kill her. Has she also started to throw up anything she eats or drinks?

Please share exactly what your vet told you, it will help people help you!

3rd... this is way gross, but if it saves your kitties life, I'll swallow my own pride and share.

"she has no energy at all, doesn't want to eat or drink a lot"

You describe me before I went to the ER a few months back I;ll describe my symptoms as a human, see if this sounds familiar. Will try to put the earlier ones first...

1) No desire to eat, no matter what. 2) tiny poo pieces, signs of constipation, but seeming not serious to me 3) chills, shakes 4) discomfort, my god, don't touch my tummy! (picky kitty up and it hurts a lot) 5) body pain spreads, lack of sleep, no energy, can't summon strength to move, yet uncomfortable and pain causes tossing and irritation. 6) Throwing up and dry heaving. Even one tiny sip of water and it is thrown up! This sent me to the ER finally

I was incoherent, shaking, in agonizing pain all over , unable to communicate. It was terrifying! They did nothing but pump me full of drugs to mask the pain and give me anti nausea and fluids. (Your kitty must be very dehydrated!! = death!!) I felt something was very wrong with my guts and demanded repeatedly to be admitted and tested, not be sent home with useless pain killers and anti puke pills after a few liters of fluids.

I was right.I could have died. (did your vet take an x-ray, blocked intestines is very visible!) I had a giant block in my intestines. They doctor quoted this disgusting thing to me:

"One more day in this condition and i would be "pooping out my mouth". Gross. I was already throwing up bile and things that were in the small intestine. I thought it was impossible, but he said all was going BACKWARDs into my mouth.

That packed me full of laxatives and a few enemas. 4 days later, I could go home.

If your cat is feeling anything like I did... it's serious!

Hairball remedies and that new miralax tasteless powder that I use for my cats and myself is not going to help you now. It sounds too far.

Until you can get to the vet in the morning do everything in your power to get your cat to take in fluids. Later, consider a water fountain (cats will drink more) and hairball paste. I've forced water down my cat's throat, but you can suffocate them like this.

If you had not already seen a vet, I'd say go immediately to a 24 hour ER! Since you saw a vet... please tell what all he said! When? How long ago?

I swore i never bother with this site again... but I love cats and saw this by accident.

I hope I said something useful. It could be a big ol hairball, a marble plastic toy, just dried up poo, the vet will tell you when/ if removed.

Good luck!!

Hairball remedy. It's glycerin and will make things slippery so passing turds will be easier.
