Liver Cleanse Biopsy: From The Basics To The Complications

There are some medical procedures that are used in diagnosing some problems in your liver. One of the most common procedures performed to determine the condition of your liver is through needle biopsy, which is also known as percutaneous needle biopsy. This procedure could help you diagnose your colon problem as well.

The needle biopsy is done by either a gastroenterologist or hepatologist.  The condition of your liver is determined through this procedure even without the aid of ultrasound equipment.  The use of liver needle biopsy will depend on your condition and the expertise of the person who will perform the procedure.  It is considered as a safe procedure and it is an effective way to determine the problems concerning your liver.

Purposes of liver cleanse biopsy

A comprehensive identification of the structure of your liver and its adjacent organs is very important to the biopsy procedure because it can help to the prevention of other problems that may arise during the process.

Liver biopsy is necessary in determining the different kinds of problems that are affecting your liver.  It is a medical procedure wherein a small part of your liver tissue will be taken as a sample and brought to laboratory for further examination.

Preparation

Before you undergo a liver biopsy it is important that you inform your doctor the present medications you are taking-in and some other medical problems that you currently have.  Your doctor may also advise you to stop taking some vitamins that will affect the procedure and may cause some complications.  Your physician may also request some blood tests to ensure that you have no problem in blood clotting.

If there is a need for ultrasound, you will be required to have one just to establish the most excellent site for biopsy.  You will also be advised not to take-in anything prior to the procedure.  The most important thing to remember before undergoing a liver biopsy is to have somebody to assist you after the medical process is done.

Procedure

A laparoscope is required to get samples from the precise part of your liver to be examined at the laboratory.  This is a type of medical equipment that has an enlarged lens connected to see the perfect sight of the inner part of your liver.  A trocars, an instrument with three-sided points, is also connected to the laparoscope in order to made a little cut in the abdomen so that the whole laparoscope can be inserted into your liver.

Your doctor will give you a mild anesthesia in order that you will feel comfortable and relaxed during the process.  This will enable you not to feel the pain from the incision that he will create in your abdomen.

Possible Complication

You might feel some discomfort after the liver biopsy.  The feeling may last for hours, especially at the place where the incision was done and where the samples are taken from. Other possibilities include stomach ache and swelling, chest pain, swelling around the incision site, drowsiness, fever, nausea, shortness of breath and abdominal pain.

You are advised to immediately seek the help of your doctor if you are feeling any of these symptoms.  This could help you to prepare yourself for colon cleansing.  You need to have a cleansed liver to ensure that you have a cleansed colon as well.
